About us

Kaalo Diary (“Black Diary”) is an independent online platform that fact-checks Nepali news, public claims and government decisions.

Dozens of young people were killed during the Gen Z uprising of 8–9 September 2025. The governments formed since then came with promises of good governance, transparency and merit-based appointments. Our job is to keep a sourced record of whether those promises are being kept.

What we do

• Fact-checks: we test claims from social media, politicians and the press against official documents and credible sources, and publish a verdict.
• Controversial appointments tracker: we record appointments that have been publicly questioned over family ties, political closeness, qualifications or process.
• Inquiry reports: we follow what the Karki Commission, the National Human Rights Commission and others found, whom they named, and whether anything was implemented.

Our principles

• Every claim shows its source. No source, no publication.
• We write about public offices and public decisions only — never private lives.
• We separate allegations from established facts. Nobody is called a criminal unless a court has ruled so.
• We carry the response of the people we write about, and add it whenever it arrives.
• When we get something wrong, we correct it openly.
