Controversy erupted when it emerged that Junu Shrestha, wife of then Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister Deepak Kumar Sah, had become active as a member of the Health Insurance Board.
RSP’s disciplinary body concluded the minister had used his position to reactivate her in a dormant board role and had given the party incomplete and false information. It also found a breach of the party rule barring family members of central office-holders from state appointments.
On the recommendation of party chair Rabi Lamichhane, Prime Minister Balen Shah dismissed Minister Sah on 9 April 2026. Health Minister Nisha Mehta was warned for not taking the matter seriously enough.
The exact date of her appointment/reactivation and her current status are yet to be confirmed.
