On 1 July 2026, former secretary and urban planner Kishore Thapa was appointed chair of the Tribhuvan University Service Commission without competition. According to Nepal News he is 68, ran for Kathmandu mayor in 2017 and was affiliated with the Bibeksheel Sajha Party. Critics questioned his lack of university-management experience and raised age concerns.
