Sudan Gurung, a prominent face of the Gen Z movement and founder of Hami Nepal, was appointed home minister on 27 March 2026. In April, questions arose over shares in Star Micro Insurance and Liberty Micro Life Insurance left out of his 12 April asset declaration, links to businessman Deepak Bhatta (under money-laundering investigation), and opaque transactions through Hami Nepal.
He resigned on 22–23 April citing moral responsibility. After a government-formed probe reportedly found nothing unusual, he was reappointed home minister on 9 June 2026.
Worth noting: the NHRC report also lists him among the 17 people recommended for further investigation. Since the police who would investigate fall under the Home Ministry, this could raise conflict-of-interest questions.
Response from those concerned
"A company can have hundreds or thousands of shareholders. Buying shares does not mean partnership with them all." He said he resigned so the investigation would be fair.
