Is Sudan Gurung, who resigned, home minister again?
Short answer: Yes. Sudan Gurung, who resigned on 22–23 April 2026, was reappointed home minister on 9 June 2026.
Why did he resign?
- Shares in two micro-insurance companies were missing from his 12 April asset declaration.
- Links to businessman Deepak Bhatta, under money-laundering investigation.
- Questions over opaque transactions through Hami Nepal.
Why did he return?
A government-formed probe reportedly found nothing unusual. We have not found that probe report published in full. (We will link it here if it is made public.)
Worth noting
Gurung is among the 17 people the NHRC recommended for further investigation. Because the police fall under the Home Ministry, his leading the ministry responsible for that investigation could raise conflict-of-interest questions.
Response from those concerned
Gurung said: "A company can have hundreds or thousands of shareholders. Buying shares does not mean partnership with them all."
