Prime Minister Balen Shah appointed Kumar Byanjankar as his chief advisor. According to Nepal News, Byanjankar is regarded as the PM’s political mentor and is the son of former ward chair Narsingh Byanjankar. The appointment was made directly, without competition.

Posts such as chief advisor are political appointments that rest on the PM’s trust. But after his siblings were also appointed to government posts (see Siddhi Byanjankar and Siddhi Laxmi Byanjankar), questions were raised about the “choose the capable” pledge.
